AC Check-up Steps

The specific steps for an AC tune-up vary a bit by equipment type and age, but these are items we will always perform on an AC tune-up:

  • System Inspection
    Inspect the outdoor unit, refrigerant lines, the indoor unit, and visible ductwork, prior to service and document any immediate areas of concern.
    Ensure the outdoor unit is level and properly secure.
  • System Preliminary Test:
    Start up you AC system and operate for a few minutes. Identify any unusual operating conditions or noises.
  • Outdoor unit:
    Examine outdoor blower motor blower and fan and verify smooth operation.
    Visually inspect capacitor Inspect the contactor for burn marks or signs of ware Check all high voltage and 24v wire connections Inspect the outdoor unit coil for damage or anything that might obstruct airflow and clean as necessary Check the outdoor disconnect Check the refrigerant lines and insulation, and ensure they are properly supported
  • Indoor equipment:
    Check indoor unit(s) to ensure they are level and secure
    Inspect the indoor unit filters for dirt or debris and clean as necessary. Replace disposal air filters with new quality replacements. Inspect the indoor coil to ensure that it is clean, and clean if necessary Inspect the indoor unit fan and fan motor Examine the system ductwork and ensure that it is properly sealed and secure Check the condensate lines and any condensate pumps in the system
  • Start-up System and Test:
    Perform a full operating test
    Test wired thermostat operation and replace any control batteries as needed Measure and document the temperature rise on the indoor coil Measure and document the outdoor unit amp draw
  • Clean-up: We'll pick-up our tools, remove any old filters, and thoroughly clean our workspace
  • Visit Report: We'll explain our work and document any potential problems or recommended repairs
