Geneva, IL Gas Furnace Check-ups

Regular health check-ups are an important part of ensuring that you and your family are healthy and safe. Properly maintaining your gas furnace with a safety and maintenance check-up every year offers similar benefits including:

  • Ensure Safety: A complete inspection of your furnace heat exchanger and vent system will give you the peace of mind that you family will not be exposed to odors-less and dangerous carbon monoxide.
  • Let Your Furnace System Live a Full Life: A properly maintained system will last several years longer than one that is ignored. Proper airflow and clean air filters will maintain a comfortable indoor environment. Proper professional maintenance ensure a maximum return on the investment you made in your gas furnace.
  • Identify Issues Before They Become Acute: One of the most important parts of a Check-up is component testing. Our furnace techs have the experience to identify a problem or a system component that is still working, but likely to fail. This will sharply reduce the likelihood of emergency repairs.
  • Proper Warranty Maintenance: Improper maintenance is a major cause of system failure. All major gas furnace manufacturers require annual inspection and maintenance as a condition of extended warranty coverage.

Furnace Check-up Steps

The specific steps for an furnace tune-up vary a bit by equipment type and age, but these are items we will always perform on an furnace tune-up:

  • System Inspection
Inspect the gas furnace, the AC coil (if appropriate), any system components like humidifiers or air cleaners, and visible ductwork prior to service and document any immediate areas of concern.
Ensure the furnace is level and properly supported.
  • System Preliminary Test:
Start up your gas furnace and operate for a few minutes. Identify and document any unusual operating conditions or noises.
  • Furnace inspection and testing:
Carefully examine the heat exchanger for cracks or signs of deterioration
Inspect the burners and clean if necessary. If the burners need cleaning, consider and correct the cause of any soot or condensation to prevent future burner failures.
Inspect the ignition system for any signs of improper operation * Check the fan switch
Inspect the safety controls and the furnace PCB (if appropriate)
Inspect the vent system and all components. If chimney vented check for signs of condensation. If your furnace is 90+ AFUE check the vent for proper pitch and inspect the condensate removal system. Check for proper combustion air.
Change and disposable filters. Inspect and clean as necessary and permanent filtration or air purification equipment.
Inspect the indoor unit fan and fan motor Examine the system ductwork and ensure that it is properly sealed and secure
Check the gas lines and all visible gas connections
  • Start-up System and Test:
    Perform a full operating test
Test wired thermostat operation and replace any disposable batteries as needed
Measure and document the temperature rise for the furnace
Measure and document blower motor amp draw
  • Clean-up: We'll pick-up our tools, remove any old filters, and thoroughly clean our workspace
  • Visit Report: We'll explain our work and document any potential problems or recommended repairs
